By embedding Domo’s AI and data products platform into Buildertrend, the company has transformed its platform from a system of record into a system of intelligence.
“We’re driving subscription growth by going beyond communication and documentation to offering real-time actionable insights,” said Brett Jones, senior manager of core subscription growth at Buildertrend. “Domo produced about 2 percent of our overall revenue just in the last year of launching our new reporting product, and now makes up about 25-30 percent of our cross-sell/upsell revenue.”

The homebuilding industry is complex and fragmented, requiring builders to coordinate a vast network of subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders—all while managing shifting timelines, evolving project scopes, and tight budgets. “The biggest challenge impacting our subscription model was that Buildertrend was mainly used as a documentation and communication tool. We wanted to make our product more valuable by driving real-time insights so our customers can understand what’s working, what’s not, and how they can scale,” Jones said.
“Previously, a lot of our customers exported their data from Buildertrend and brought it into some other tool. We wanted to enable users to analyze data as soon as they input it into Buildertrend,” said Jake Braun, manager of data products at Buildertrend.
With Domo Everywhere, Buildertrend incorporated Domo’s data platform to deliver a new customized reporting product that tracks projects in real time, helps predict cash flow trends, and provides users with deeper insight into their business. Rather than invest in a separate business intelligence (BI) tool, customers can instantly access, customize, and visualize their data without leaving the Buildertrend platform.
“Partnering with Domo, we can now allow people to really dive into their data, customize it to fit their needs, add in custom fields to make it directly applicable to their business, and enable self-service for faster insights. Instead of spending dev time building a new reporting product, Domo helped us give that functionality to our customers in a fraction of the time,” said Charley Burtwistle, VP of core operations at Buildertrend.

“We pre-sold more than 100 customers on our new analytics offering before it was available, so Domo produced a huge ROI for Buildertrend even before we launched the product. It has now become one of the largest add-on SKUs that we sell across our growth team,” Burtwistle said.

“We are leveraging Domo’s automation to create a new account in less than 15 minutes, which used to take us more than four hours. This even lets us provide potential customers with access to the Domo environment using their data, which has helped us finalize sales and increase our close rates,” said Adam Brehm, senior director of data science and engineering at Buildertrend. “We have saved thousands of hours onboarding more than 150 customers to date onto our Domo-based reporting product.”
