Same Pain, New Year.
A Live Domo Session on Solving the Problems You Swore You’d Fix Last Year

And we are live.
Welcome, welcome in, everybody. Come on in. Come on in.
Get comfortable. Get comfortable.
We are excited to have you here with us today.
We're gonna give some time for people to join us.
So, in the meantime, while we're waiting,
I have an icebreaker question that I wanna ask everybody.
Since we're approaching the holidays, I wanna know
what is the best Christmas movie?
What's the best Christmas movie?
Drop your answer in the chat. We will see it.
I wanna know, I wanna know what's the best Christmas movie?
I, myself, I love
the Grinch Trading Places.
I, I'll, I'll admit I've never heard of that one.
Maybe, maybe I I should have Die Hard.
Die Hard is amazing. Elf. That's a good one.
That's a good one. Uh, you know, the Grinch is my favorite,
but the Elf is like, kind of on that same level, like
very comedic, very hilarious.
National Lampoon's Christmas vacation.
Now that's a good one. That's a good, another great comedy.
A Christmas story.
My wife and I were just talking about the Christmas story
the other day, and how hilarious it is.
Like she took our kids to go see Santa Claus.
And just, you know how in that scene where, uh,
the kid goes to see Santa,
how it's just like the elf is like so mean to the kid.
He is like, all right, get on his lap.
It's your turn to see Santa.
It is like everything from the child's view.
Imagine just like what it was like when you were a kid
experiencing Christmas and all of these adults, right?
Uh, I, I I think that's such a great movie. Um, okay.
Amazing, amazing Christmas story is a goaded pick.
I, I'll have to see Trading Places Die Hard.
That is a phenomenal Christmas pick.
I, I love how we've just all just agreed.
Die Hard is absolutely a Christmas movie. That's great.
That's great. Now, oh,
white Christmas every year without Fail.
Now that's a good, that's a good feel Good movie.
White Christmas. Um, well,
as you may know that this, uh,
this webinar is holiday themed because it's, it's themed
after the movie Home Alone.
And I feel like Home Alone is the perfect webinar, uh,
or pick for this webinar
because it is very, uh, it,
it resembles the experience
that we all sometimes have with data.
You know, Kevin McAllister in
that movie at the very beginning,
he's very afraid of everything.
You know, all of these things that are happening to him,
he's very reactive to it.
You know, the old man approaching him, he runs away, right?
Uh, everything is just, you know, it scares him.
And so, sometimes that's how we feel about our data.
We feel afraid of all of the same problems
that we keep dealing with year after year, right?
Same pain New Year.
So when we are dealing with these problems,
just like Kevin McAllister in the end of the movie,
he starts to feel confident.
He starts to say, you know what?
I gotta take ownership of this,
and I gotta just take it head on.
Start creating plans so that he can deal
with those wet bandits, you know?
And he ends up protecting his house
and saving the day, right?
So that's kind of like what we wanna do for you right now.
We wanna give you the confidence to be able to deal
with the data problems that you're experiencing.
And I know we're all dealing with it.
That being said, we know that some people might have
a broken leg, some people might have a broken back,
and the way you treat those problems
is very different, right?
So, with that in mind, we're going to give you a live demo
that's kind of gonna go over some
very general things, right?
But we know that you have individual issues.
So to address that, if you have a problem that you want
to solve that we we aren't addressing,
please let us know in the chat,
and we will send you a Zoom link where you can meet with
a sales engineer or one of our product team leaders,
and they will help you live right now with your problem.
We want you to walk away from this feeling confident
that you can deal
with whatever issues you are facing right now.
And, uh, we know that you, you've, you've used Domo before,
or you've had interest in Domo,
and for some reason it didn't work out.
So that's really the effort that we're trying to make here,
is that reintroducing you to our product so
that you can find a solution to those problems
that you've been dealing with year after year.
So, without further ado, I want to introduce, um,
our, our, uh, person here who's going to go
through our live demo, um, Braxton Fullen Camp.
I'm gonna have him come on stage with us.
Braxton, how are we doing? I'm good, grant. How are you?
Doing great. Doing great.
I'm excited to see what you have for us today,
and hopefully, you know,
just like Kevin McAllister when he's putting the cologne on
his face and he is like screaming.
That's how some of these people are feeling right now about
their data, and you are going to help us figure out how
to get rid of those problems.
All right? So thank you very much, Braxton.
I'm gonna let you take it over and I will leave the stage.
Please leave it in chat.
If you have any questions at all,
please let us know in the chat.
Drop it. This is very casual.
Feel free to ask whatever you want. Alright, take away.
Thanks, grant. Uh, really appreciate the, the intro
and, uh, appreciate everyone, um, being here today with us.
We're, we're really excited to
share a little bit more about the platform.
Um, I guess first an introduction.
I'm Braxton, I'm a sales engineer.
I've been a Domo for, uh, coming up on six years now.
And prior to joining Domo, I was actually a customer.
Um, so at one point in my journey, I was sitting exactly
where you are, uh, frustrated with data, the speed
of insights, the ability
to bring these disparate data sources together.
I worked for an automotive parts supplier, um, in Detroit,
and we had more Excel than any company should ever be
operating on, um, when, when I arrived.
And so in evaluating different platforms
and finding Domo, we finally had a place that allowed us
to bring all of these disparate data sources together
and put data in the hands of people
who are really making those decisions
through our self-service analytics journey.
And so today I'm gonna talk a little bit about, um, just
what the dommo platform is, some
of the, the core capabilities.
Then I'll share my screen.
And I wanna walk through, um, a healthcare app.
And really, this is just an example of, uh,
an app that dommo can build.
It has some of the, the key and core capabilities.
So maybe don't pay as much attention to the, you know,
the topics and, and what the charts are saying,
but focus more on, um, you know, the capabilities
and the things that you're going to be enabled to do
with the Domo platform.
Once I've walked through that, uh, I will pass it
to my colleague Jason.
And Jason's gonna actually talk us through, like, you know,
sometimes the hardest part is, is getting started.
Um, so he's gonna be really practical with here's
how we're gonna connect our data warehouse.
Here's how we can connect to some different data sources,
whether it's Excel or Salesforce or,
or, you know, some of those systems.
How do we bring that data together?
And then how do we start building these visualizations?
Because I promise you it's easier than
you probably think it is.
Um, and again, as, as Grant said,
if you have questions along the way, uh, you want
to ask questions about, Hey, how did we do that?
Those will be great primers for when Jason jumps on and,
and gives us those examples.
So let me get my screen shared here
and we will dive right in.
Okay, so what we're looking at on the screen here is
what Domo calls an app, studio app,
and it's a collection of different pages here.
So you can see we've got some information about our
hospital capacity management.
We've got some hospital finances.
So these are really individual dashboards.
There's some capabilities around data input, um,
that really I think take us from
that dashboard space into this app space.
Hey, I need to collect information from my users, I need
to do a survey and then act
or take some action on that data.
And so, um, let's just, now
that we're a little bit oriented here, let's talk
through some of what we're seeing on the screen,
what we're seeing here in this app.
Uh, each one of these elements is something
that Domo calls a card,
and Jason's gonna talk later about how we build these cards.
They're all built using a no-code interface, very drag
and drop, very business user friendly.
When I found Domo eight
or nine years ago, I was a, a novice business user,
fresh out of college, I knew how to do some stuff in Excel,
and I found it really easy to step into this Domo platform
and, and really, um, move quickly.
So, uh, hopefully you'll, you'll see that by the end here.
So cards can be, you know, both filters.
So I can filter across, you know, different providers here.
I can see my different charts are going to update,
and I just get this quick bit of information.
You know, our, our average length of stay, you know,
as this updates is now down 3% for these two providers.
So that would be a good thing.
Uh, these charts can be really dynamic.
So for example, I'm looking at the last 13 weeks, uh,
for admissions, maybe I wanna see a longer term trend.
I'm able to swap this out
and I can see, okay, that trend is,
is maybe a little more cyclical.
And if I want to change out, you know, the, the metric
that we're looking at here, maybe instead of admissions,
I wanna look at my patient to staff ratio
and make sure that I'm keeping this within sort
of expected ranges.
This app, you know, without being a really long report
with hundreds of charts and,
and really struggling to find these insights, I'm able
to self-serve and understand and,
and drill into this information, um, in,
in a really succinct way.
And so we're gonna show you how to build some
of these charts, uh, as we, um, you know, step further into
this demonstration.
Um, another capability I want to call out here, uh, I,
I think everyone is probably, uh, thinking about
or, or in the process of implementing a,
an AI strategy in your company.
Um, if, if you have questions specifically about AI
and how we integrate ai, I'd love for you
to throw those in the chat and,
and let us help you with that as well.
One of the ways that the Domo platform is really enabling
this AI strategy is, first of all, we,
we let you use whichever model that you're approved to use.
So many of our customers, they come to us and,
and they're very early in their journey
and they say, I don't really have a model of choice.
And that's a, a great and an okay situation to be in
because Domo has hosted models inside the Domo platform
that we call Domo, GPT.
And so you can use those, um,
if you have specific AI models, if your company says,
we're gonna use open ai, we're gonna use Anthropic,
we're gonna use, um, you know, Google,
or we're gonna use Snowflake cortex.
Just know that the Domo platform can support those as well.
And then we will build on top
of those foundational capabilities.
Things like what you're seeing here.
So in our AI chat capability, we give users the ability
to ask natural language questions of the data.
So here we're asking which department has the highest
average cost per patient, uh, per patient day,
and how does this compare across different providers?
And so obviously that's sort of a multi-part question there.
We're looking at average cost, which is a field in the data,
and then how are we comparing
that across different providers?
What I love about our implementation of AI is it's very
transparent in the way that we process this data.
So we are showing you the individual steps.
So a user asked a question, we used AI to convert that into
SQL, which allows us to ask questions of the data.
And then we bring that raw data back and we pass it to AI
and we say, Hey, write a natural language statement.
And one of my favorite features of this is with one click,
I can copy this, this is now on my clipboard,
and I can go answer questions in a teams chat
or in a Slack channel and look
like the smartest guy on earth.
'cause I was able to get the question answered in,
in 10 seconds, not, you know, 10 business days.
But then we also give you the ability to look at the,
uh, the different charts here.
And you'll notice that this is context aware, it knows
that I'm looking at this dashboard.
It also knows that I've applied these filters.
So we have Bakersfield and Grove City.
Those are the only two that are being compared here
because Domo understands
that this is the context in
which I'm looking at this question.
So if I changed my filters, I ask this question again,
my chart would be, you know, slightly different.
So, um, we love this AI capability.
We think this is super impactful for, uh, you know, our,
our end users to be able to self-serve again.
And, and, you know, maybe they got their answer over here,
but maybe they had that next level question that,
that deeper drill down.
And that's where AI Chat comes in super handy and,
and is very useful for many of our users.
Another capability of App Studio is
that it's not just this visualization AI chat engine,
it also has the ability to host these app components where
we're asking questions of the user.
So we're collecting some information
and we collect that into a data set.
We can write that into whatever
cloud data warehouse you prefer.
So if you wanna house your data in, in Snowflake
or Databricks or BigQuery, um, you know, all
of this data gets written there.
And then we're able to, through this interface, you know,
allow people to input data.
So in this case, we're doing more of a survey style
and we're letting them, you know,
add comments and commentary.
This can be adding commentary to individual data points,
and those can appear on charts.
But you can see here it's a very flexible interface
to be able to answer these questions.
I can then submit this information
and that will, again, be written into a data set.
Maybe we wanna use a workflow to send an email to someone,
or maybe we wanna use AI in our workflow to analyze the, uh,
the, the survey responses.
You know, what are the, what is the sentiment of people
that are filling out this survey?
So, again, a lot of different capabilities.
And, uh, I think Jason's going to talk more about, you know,
what does it look like to build some of this?
So the different chart types that we have and,
and how all of that comes together.
Stay tuned for that 'cause that's really coming up next.
But before we get there, I want to talk a little bit about
the, um, the sort of data foundation or,
or what we're looking at here,
because I think it's really easy for anyone in,
in any company to say, uh, or,
or any product rather, to, to say, Hey,
we can make a pretty dashboard.
Um, and, you know, we think we make it really easy
for people to build these, these data experiences,
and we think we make it easy to share and distribute them.
So, not to say that Domo isn't differentiated in this space,
but the place that I think we're most differentiated is
really in what it takes to get the data ready
to build an experience like this.
And so, taking one step back from this app experience,
I want to talk a little bit about magic.
ETL Magic ETL is really for me as a former customer,
it was one of my favorite parts of the platform
because it enabled me to step out of doing spreadsheets
and doing macros and doing pivot tables
and into really focusing on being an analyst and,
and self-serving.
And so, uh, magic ETL allows me
to take my different data sources,
whether it's something from an Oracle database
or something from, you know, maybe a previous transform.
So we can chain these things together,
or even a data set that's being emailed to me by a vendor
or a partner or another department.
And through a no-code interface, be able
to join these different data sources together,
or apply filters
or change column types, uh, all in the name
of applying this business logic where ultimately I,
I create this capacity management dataset that I can go
and build these AI experiences
and these data experiences on top of.
So I am going to pass it to Jason now to,
to be a little more tactical.
I want him to focus on, you know,
how do we connect our data warehouse,
how are we gonna connect to these different data sources?
And, and everything that kind of leads up so
that you guys can feel confident today
in diving into those trial instances
and, and really getting started.
So Jason, I'm gonna stop my screen share here.
And, uh, welcome, welcome to the stage now, Braxton,
Before you go, yeah, I have one very important question,
by the way, amazing demo there.
Really appreciate it.
I hope everybody here got value out of that.
Again, folks ask questions.
We, we want to answer your questions so
that you feel prepared
to meet those data challenges for the year.
Now, Braxton, this very important
question that I have to ask.
Same question that we asked at the beginning.
What is your favorite Christmas movie?
I should have probably started off with that.
I'm gonna side with Rachel on this one.
I am a big national Lampoons fan. Um, big, big comedy fan.
Uh, big, big fan of that movie.
So, uh, and I did go, in case anyone wonders,
I did go out in the woods with a hacksaw
and chop down my own Christmas tree this year.
'cause that's the right way to do it.
And so, uh, I, I, I definitely, you know,
picture myself in that movie.
Oh, man, I love it. I love it. Yeah, it couldn't be me.
I love my artificial treat.
Now we're gonna start, start a hot debate here
that's gonna start a debate in the chat, for sure. Oh,
Yeah. And
Chops fired. Yeah.
Jason, what about you?
What's, what's your favorite Christmas movie?
Oh, that's a great question.
I feel like I have just such fond memories of the, like,
Claymation animated Christmas movies, right?
Like, uh, frosty the Snowman.
That one's not Claymation, but, uh, parts of it.
But, uh, uh,
or like those reindeer, yeah, I've got kids
that are like right in the sweet spot
that really enjoy that.
So that's a good one.
I do enjoy Elf though, for, you know, shout out to
that one from, uh, Tanya.
I think that's a, that is always a classic.
Very, very classic. Wonderful.
Okay, well, we'll stop talking about that, Jason,
you've got some amazing stuff to show us.
I know it's just gonna blow our minds.
All right, so without further ado,
we're, we're gonna leave the stage. Hey,
Thanks Grant. Thanks
Braxton for that tee up.
Wanted to just open it up here,
give you a little background.
I'm Jason. I've been at Domo for 10 years in, uh, product
and now in product marketing.
Uh, so worked on a lot of the features
that we're gonna show today.
And the reason I bring that up is
'cause I was looking on, uh, some of the folks
that are here on the call.
We've got quite the range of everything from analysts to,
uh, managers and decision makers.
And so I think the reason why we have the marketing guy
doing the demo today is
because if I can do it, then you can do it.
That's what I hope that I can show you, uh, is
that Domo is that accessible.
You can come in, you can really learn something new
and start to take advantage of this data that you have.
Uh, so if you've got questions,
like my format is very loose, I'm gonna ask questions,
throw your comments in the chat if you wanna see something
specific, uh, or you've got an idea, let's talk about it.
Let's, let's try it.
Um, so to jump in, I'm gonna just show you this app
that we have, um, I that, uh,
Braxton just showed
and wanna give you a little intro to Domo navigation.
So to start us off, when you get into your trial,
it's probably gonna look something like this.
And just to give you a sense of how to navigate
around over here in the features, uh, tab right here is
where you're really gonna get started
and be able to see all of the different
capabilities that Domo has.
Now, if this starts to feel a little
overwhelming, that's okay.
We're gonna walk you through how you're going to build, uh,
and get more value as you start adding different
components to the platform.
But one of the most amazing things about Domo is that all
of this is included by default.
There's no add-ons for different pieces, uh,
because of how Domo's priced.
Everything just has different ways that it's used.
And most of it is just included on top of the data
that you bring into Domo.
Uh, and all of the people that you add to Domo,
you can give them as much access
or as little to these different capabilities.
So to get you started, you're gonna need some data.
Braxton showed how to do magic ETL.
Um, one of the things we can do right here is we have our
create button right here.
So if we hit create, you've got all these different things
that we're able to create to start off,
we can have one of two ways.
So connect data is gonna give us our list
of all the different ways that we can bring in data.
Now, the most common is going to be something like
upload a spreadsheet for your first time, just
because connecting
to different data sources can be challenging.
Um, and that's why we have some great folks on the call
that if you've got specific data sources
that you wanna bring in, ask a question
or jump into a call with one of them,
they're gonna help you get started that very first time.
Um, just because everyone's data is different, where it is
and, and what makes sense.
Ah, there we go.
I just, we are, we're only seeing the tab.
Okay, uh, I've gotta be careful here
and make sure I show you all the right tabs.
So this is,
this is the features tab right up here in the corner.
And here are all of the features in here. As you go down.
We've got cloud integrations.
So if you've already got Snowflake or Databricks or
or BigQuery use,
this is gonna be your first stop to set up here.
But we're gonna go over right here to the plus.
And then this is where we have connect data.
And then right here we have our connectors,
cloud connectors upload a spreadsheet.
So if you've already got a spreadsheet on your desktop,
you wanna drag that in, you're just gonna click that button,
drag your file right in here, super easy, uh,
if you've got it in a Google Drive
or something else, there's other ways to do that
as well from there, if you've got an existing cloud.
So again, snowflake, Databricks, big query, uh, NetSuite,
even if you've got some of those things going,
native integration is gonna be your friend.
'cause it lets you take advantage
of all those existing tables
and just link them directly to Domos.
You're not moving that data, it's just querying it directly,
which is a super powerful way to get started.
Um, finally last one we'll show is, uh, connect data.
These connectors right here.
So we have connectors to hundreds,
even a thousand different sources.
So if you're trying to pull in data from Google Analytics,
you've got social media accounts that you wanna pull in,
uh, and take a look at.
Um, or you've got, uh, project management through Asana
or Smartsheet or your CRM with a HubSpot or a Salesforce.
Uh, these connectors make it really easy to get started.
So you'll just click on one of those.
Um, often the recommended connector is gonna
be the best way to do this.
But again, this is where you want to just chat
with those folks in the, in the q and a
or, uh, jump onto a call.
'cause we can help you figure
out what's the right connector.
Get you started that very first time.
So you can start pulling in data really quickly.
But let's jump ahead here.
Uh, so what I wanna show now is
over on the side,
I've already got some data pre-prepared that you saw before.
So we're gonna go to data sets.
And I've searched for hospital capacity.
So we've got this hospital capacity management data set,
which is the one that Braxton was showing earlier.
With that data flow, we're gonna jump in really quickly.
Um, this is that data.
We'll jump over here to the data tab
and we can actually see the individual records of this table
and some really helpful stats up here at the top
that show us kind of a breakdown
of what that data looks like.
