MilliporeSigma ensures drug safety using Domo

The process of taking a new medicine from the laboratory to patients requires safety/release testing at every step of the drug development pipeline. Merck’s MilliporeSigma business is responsible for providing the methods and process solutions required to ensure that biological drugs are engineered to be safe. To help manage this complex process, MilliporeSigma/ Merck Co. uses Domo to enable more than 1,200 business users around the world to access and track metrics and study updates.

Getting the right data faster

As part of its quality service agreement requirements, MilliporeSigma is required to conduct regular meetings with clients to review performance metrics. Before Domo, project managers would take days or even weeks to gather data and then format it for consumption.

I was frustrated because some of my best project managers were getting stressed out,” Crouse said. “They would spend one to three weeks just generating the data from our systems, and then it would take them way too long to generate graphs in PowerPoint. They were spending too much time on formatting, and not enough time figuring out what the story was for our client in terms of where they needed to focus their attention and drive organizational attention.”

Thanks to Domo, MilliporeSigma can automatically ingest client testing data from dozens of data sources around the globe and then generate the required KPIs and trackers. Domo’s Microsoft Office Add-Ins let project managers easily bring Domo visualizations into PowerPoint presentations. Graphs can be updated with a click, significantly reducing the time it takes to prepare for client meetings.

Before, we would spend half our time engaging with operations or QA about whose data we should use in the report, so we really needed to align our data. Domo was able to create a Connector/Pipeline for us between Palantir Foundry and Domo that allows us to pull accurate data every time while ensuring we’re in compliance with Merck’s data policies,” Crouse said.

In addition, MilliporeSigma can now enable select clients to self-serve data for instant insights in between meetings.

 


“We have a small handful of clients who require a higher frequency of reporting than our quarterly review meetings allow. Domo Everywhere lets these clients log into their own page to see their data in near real-time whenever they want.”

MilliporeSigma also uses Domo to augment its weekly project tracking meetings. Previously, project managers would track testing progress using annotated spreadsheets. Each week, comments from previous spreadsheets would have to be copied over to the new version, which was both time-consuming and tedious. With the Domo for Microsoft Office Add-In, spreadsheets, comments, and annotations are instantly accessible and up to date.

Clients can now see our tracking in real time, while our project managers save several hours a week that they used to spend prepping and building the tracking spreadsheet,” Crouse said.

Empowering users to do more

To expand its use of Domo across the organization without having to worry about managing licenses, MilliporeSigma recently switched to credit-based pricing. “Before, we were limited to how many users we could roll Domo out to. Since adopting the credit-based pricing model, our use of Domo has really taken off. More people in more departments are now looking at Domo and building their own solutions.”

To facilitate its use and adoption, MilliporeSigma created a Domo Council that gathers core stakeholders from across the organization to discuss strategy, address issues, and share best practices.
