Intro

Quandl is a search engine for numerical data. It indexes data from multiple sources enabling users to find and download in various formats. Use Domo’s Quandl connector to retrieve public-facing Quandl data sets. You can connect to your Quandl account in the Data Center. This topic discusses the fields and menus that are specific to the Quandl connector user interface. To add DataSets, set update schedules, and edit DataSet information, see Adding a DataSet Using a Data Connector.

Prerequisites

To connect to your Quandl account and create a DataSet, you must have an Auth Token.

Connecting to Your Quandl Account

This section enumerates the options in the Credentials and Details panes in the Quandl Connector page. The components of the other panes in this page, Scheduling and Name & Describe Your DataSet, are universal across most connector types and are discussed in great detail in Adding a DataSet Using a Data Connector.

Credentials Pane

This pane contains fields for entering credentials to connect to your Quandl account. The following table describes what is needed for each field:

Field

Description

Auth Token

Enter the API Key. To generate a new API Key, see https://www.quandl.com/account/api and generate a new API key.

Once you have entered valid Quandl credentials, you can use the same account any time to create a new Quandl DataSet. You can manage connector accounts in the Accounts tab in the Data Center. For more information about this tab, see Managing User Accounts for Connectors.

Details Pane

This pane contains a primary Reports menu, along with various other menus which may or may not appear depending on the report type you select.

Menu

Description

Report

Select the Quandl report you want to run. The following reports are available:

Report Name Description
Specific Dataset Returns data for the specified dataset within the specified parameters.
Search DataSets Returns datasets that match the provided query string.A maximum of 2000 results will be returned.

Quandl Code

Enter the Quandl Code. For example, Quandl Code = ‘WIKI/AAPL’.

Each dataset on Quandl has a unique Quandl code, comprising a database code and a table code. For instance, the dataset named GDP of the United States has the Quandl code FRED/GDP , where FRED is the database code and GDP is the table code. All datasets from the same database will have the same database code.

Note: That table codes are not guaranteed to be unique across database. SHFE/CUG2014 is not the same as MCX/CUG2014 , so need both the database code and the table code to completely identify a dataset.

Duration

Select the duration for the report (a Single Date, or a Date Range).

Collapse

Select the frequency(collapse) of a dataset to be searched. Quandl returns the last observation for the given period. For example, Collapse = ‘Monthly’.

Transformation

Select the Transformation which enables you to perform certain elementary calculations on the data. For example, Transformation = ‘normalize’.

Datapoint for time t is denoted as y[t] and the transformed data as y’[t], the available transformations are defined as below:

Transformation Parameter Effect
Row-on-Row change diff y’[t] = y[t] - y[t-1]
Row-on-Row Percentage Change rdiff y’[t] = (y[t] - y[t-1])/y[t-1]
Cumulative sum cumul y’[t] = y[t] +y[t-1] +… + y[0]
Normalize normalize y’[t] = (y[t]/y[0]) * 100

Query

Enter the Query to be searched. For example, Query = ‘Apple’.

Report Date - Specific

Select report date using relative or specific dates. Relative meaning number of days from today or a specific date using the date selector.

Select Specific Date : Select the report date using the date picker, this option is available when Report Date is set to ’ Specific ’.
