What technologies and strategies will most impact business in 2019? To what extent will innovation be embraced and employed this year? And how can CIOs become the assets their companies need in the next 10-12 months, at least?
Those are questions many tech leaders are asking at the moment. And they are questions that were addressed in detail during a recent Domo-hosted webinar with featured guests Matthew Guarini and Neil Gomes.
Guarini is Vice President and Research Director at Forrester Research, one of the most influential research and advisory firms in the world. His team focuses on helping CIOs deliver technology strategies that win, serve, and retain customers.
Gomes is Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer at Jefferson Health, a $6.5 billion network of Philadelphia-area hospitals and medical schools that is using data to save lives. Before joining Jefferson, he helped build the world’s largest custom digital learning development firm — in less than two years.
On Jan. 28, the seasoned execs joined Domo’s Director of Enterprise Marketing, Scott Townsend, for an hour of discussion and insights sharing around the topic of digital transformation in an age of economic uncertainty and rapid change.
With Gomes interspersing examples of how IT initiatives he’s imagined and implemented have delivered real value for Jefferson Health and its customers, Guarini made five forecasts for 2019 based primarily on information and statistics gathered from recent surveys conducted by Forrester. Numbers that stood out to him from those studies included:
- #1 – Where ‘Emerging Technologies’ ranked in companies’ investment plans in 2018
- $3.3 trillion – How much companies are expected to spend on tech in 2019, worldwide
- 70% – Companies increasing their investment in innovation units
- 2019 – Year back-office tech investments will reach an all-time high
“One of the things we’ve found is that you really need to be adaptive,” Guarini said. “You don’t want to ruffle the organization’s DNA, but you do want to have the ability to take advantage of opportunities.”
